The Power of Road House

A big high five to Ben for hosting movie night and showing Road House. This was a powerful film-- and apparently especially powerful for expectant mothers.
I just checked the Social Security statistics:
1989: "Dalton" baby name ranking: 472
1989: Road House released
1990: "Dalton" baby name ranking: 193

Uh oh, someone's about to lose a throat.

A big LOL for that one.

Let's not be sexist here, I'm sure there were plenty of expectant fathers who just HAD to name their son "Dalton", hoping he would be just as much of a bad-ass as Patrick Swayze was in Road House.

And every, single family that did help propel Dalton to the coveted spot of 193rd most popular name in 1990 thought that they were the only ones clever enough to think of using that name. At least until they got into preschool 3 years later and found 3 or 4 other children named that.

You're right, of course. Men all over the country were probably inspired by Dalton's throat-ripping abilities and totally awesome moussed hair.
